  • Yet to be classified by the Linaen Botanical index, the Governor and many other enquiring men of Science sent a multitude of botanical and skinned fauna, together with native artifacts, back to London to be classified, drawn and subsequently engraved to be eagerly purchased by a receptive audience.

Peppermint Tree Eucalypt

$75.00

Product Description

Australian Flora & Fauna in the 1790's

This print was taken from original copper engravings published in 1789 after early settlement of Australia at Port Jackson in 1788 (later named Sydney) and is a testimony to European facination with botany and zoology to have been prepared so early. The naivity is due the artist not being able to study the live specimen back in London.
IDEAL FOR THE NATURALIST.

Obviously the British Botanists had not had time to grow this specimen and properly classify it, such was late 1700s curiosity!
