Story & Mission of Antiquarian Print Gallery & History Revisited

Antiquarian Print Gallery A Logo1989: Antiquarian Print Gallery began as our family business. Initially, we were dealers dealers in Antique Prints & Maps on Unley Road, first in Parkside, then in 1999 moving to Unley, just south of Adelaide's CBD in South Australia. Custom Framing was introduced to our skill-set as customer's inquired about era-specific framing concepts. During the 1990's, with improved conservation supplies in the Australian Market-place, we specialized in Conservation/Museum grade custom-framing. Our aim goal was To Preserve the Past and Present for the Future. From a genealogical perspective our heritage collections and knowledge of historical context, and the use of digital curation, proved greatly beneficial to the growing cohort of  family historians. Preservation of history involves tangible items together with making sense of how these historical survivors fit into our shared past.

History Revisited Logo2000: History Revisited was born, bringing together the antiquity of Antique Prints & Maps/fragile silver bromide photographs, with the use of new scanning technology to preserve the knowledge & lessons they share. There is obvious delight in handling/owning an antique item, but there is also the benefits of "knowledge decor". Scanning technology is an important preservation tool for history enabling, for example, ancestral fragile 19th century portrait photography to be digitally restored and distributed among families. Printing techniques have changed since Johannes Gutenberg invented the first printing press in 1452, responding to growing population demand/increased literacy. The modern Giclee UV light safe inkjet digital technique unlocked a powerful blend enabling digital restoration with multiplication. This is where the idea of Archival Limited Giclee Editions series come into their own.

PFGA trade Logo2002: Picture Framers Guild of Australia: In 2002 a group of local custom framers, concerned about the lack of industry trade standards, came together. The Picture Framers Guild of SA was established bring together custom framers, our suppliers, & complementary businesses (eg. art couriers, glass makers) to help inform, collaborate & encourage the uptake the superior materials and machinery now available, to help standardize practices to suit customer needs. In 2008 we amalgamated with an older Guild in Victoria, becoming the Picture Framer Guild of Australia. Please visit https://pfga.org.au to find a brilliant custom framing information resource & interstate members & benefit from from framing standards guidance.
