Top Hats & Tails

vanity-fair-top-hat-hethington-title-small.jpgWhen the original Vanity Fair Magazine in London decided to include a "Vanity of the Week"  in 1869 until 1915, There was much excitement: "A Full Paged Cartoon of an entirely novel chatracter printed in CHROMOLITHOGRAPHY, and the price is sixpence". This was the era of top hats, morning coats, & tails, together with interesting facial hair fashions. All these props gave the noble Vanity Fair caricaturist material to include in their quest for pictorial satires.
