What is an Ottoman? This is a item of furniture used as a comcortable footrest, typicically in front of a chair or couch in a parlour or formal living room. It also may be usd as a stool or a coffee table in family rooms (in front of the Television), anywhere in the home where occupants are relaxing, in this particular scenario, with their feet up listening to Music.

John Cassell (1817 – 1865) was a British Publisher printer, writer and editor, who founded the firm Cassell & Co. famous for its educational books and periodicals, and which pioneered the serial publication of novels. He was also a well-known tea and coffee merchant and a general business entrepreneur. A devout Christian he lobbied for the Temperance Movement publishing The Teetotal Times in 1846.  He was a social reformer who recognized the importance of education in improving the life of the working classes, and who’s many publications, both magazines and books, brought learning and culture to the masses.
