Issued in parts from 1879 to 1891. A comprehensive account with magnificent plates painted by David Blair and lithographed by the firm of Vincent, Brooks, Day & Son. Most fern illustrations tend to be monotonously all-green, but Blair included plenty of brown spores and contextual planting beds and stones to produce fine multi-colored images.
