Antique hand coloured engraving by Jean Pierre Frederic Barrois (1786-1841) after Pancrace Bessa (1772-1846) for Bessa's folio "Flore des Jardiners, Amateurs et Manufacturiers d'apres les dessins de Bessa"

Pancrace Besa (1772-1846) was a talented pupil of Pierre-Joseph Redoute (1759-1840). Bessa went on to become as widely respected as his teacher as one of the great botanical artist of the nineteenth century.
